[1-3 ]….. And you shall make an Altar to burn Incense upon of Shittim Wood shall you make it. …… A cubit shall be the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof [1 & 1\2 feet square ] foursquare shall it be: and two cubits shall be the height thereof:……[ 3 feet ] the horns thereof shall be of the same. ….. And you shall overlay it with Pure Gold, the top thereof, and the sides thereof round about, and the horns thereof, and you shall make unto it a Crown of Gold round about.
COMMENTARY:…….The Altar of Incense, portrays Christ making Intercession for us constantly. [Heb.7:25-26] …….Therefore He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. The Shittim Wood portrays the perfect manhood of Christ. [1cor.15:45-47]……And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven.
COMMENTARY:……. As the four horns of the Brazen Altar signified that the power of Redemption was for all, likewise, the four horns of the Altar of Incense stipulate the fact that the Believer can have total and complete victory in Christ, with sin having no dominion over us.[Romans 6:14]…..For sin shall not have dominion over you, for yu are not under law but under grace.
COMMENTARY:…….While the wood typified the Humanity of Christ, the Gold typified His Deity, the Crown signifying His Kingly character [jn 19:19].
……And two golden rings shall you make to it under the crown of it, by the two corners thereof, upon the two sides of it shall you make it;and they shall be for places for the staves to bear it withal.
COMMENTARY:………Two is the number of “witness” and speaks of the HolySpirit,Who is here to testify of Christ. The “staves “of wood overlaid with gold intimmate that it is the God-man whom the Spirit is here to glorify; at time it had to be moved, so it was to be a day and night companion of a pilgrim people. [Mat. 28;: 20 ]
…...And you shall make the staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold.
…...And you shall put it before the Veil that is by the Ark of the Testimony, before the Mercy Seat that is over the Testimony, where I will meet with you.
COMMENTARY:…….The “Altar of Incense” was to sit immediately in front of the Veil, which separated the Holy place from the Holy of Holies. So, in point of fact, it was situated immediately in front of the Ark of the Covenant. Even though the Veil separated these two Sacred Vessels, the very fact that they were this close tells us that the separation was only temporary. When Christ came the “Veil” would be removed. [Mat. 27:51;…….And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split. [Rev. 22:17 ]…….And the Spirit and the bride say Come! And let him who hears say Come! And let him who thirsts come, And whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely…...The coals of fire were to be taken from the Brazen Altar; The Incense poured on the burning coals had to be that which the Lord had designed.
THE BRAZEN LAVER EXODUS CHPTER 30
17-18…….And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying;….You shall also make a Laver of brass [copper], and his foot also of brass [a pedestal on which it sat] , to wash withal: and you shall put it between the Tabernacle of congregation and the Altar [Brazen Altar],and you shall put water therein.
COMMENTARY:……..The “Water” was a type of the Word God. One might say that the Brazen Altar was for the sinner; the Brazen Laver for the Saint. The former testified of the Blood of Chris; the latter, of the Word of God;the former cleansed the conscience; the latter, the conduct [Eph. 5:26}……That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. The Brazen Laver was the second vessel outside of the Tabernacle . It sat directly in front of the door as one entered the court.
19…….For Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet there at.
20…….When they go into the Tabernacle of the congregation, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the Altar to minister, to burn Offerings make by fire unto the Lord:
21…….So they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they die not: and it shall be a Statute forever to them, even to him and to his seed throughout their generations.
COMMENTARY:…….. The “hands” spoke of their “doing”, while the “feet” spoke of their “walk”, referring to lifestyle. Before attending to the duties of the Lord, they needed cleansing from constant defilement, hence the command for the hands and feet continually to be washed. The Word of God, of which the Brazen Laver was a type, works on the same principle for us presently. The Word of God directs us to the Cross, which alone makes right our conduct. As they needed constant washing, we, as well, need constant washing.
